Gabions are a spatial mesh structures filled with bulk materials used in regulatory and coastal fortification structures, as well as in landscape design and fortification.
Generally, gabions consist of a wire frame filled with pebbles, crushed stones, concrete, sand or soil. They are partially flexible and arranged in blocks. Green plantings can be additionally placed between the blocks, which increases the strength of the structure as a whole. Usually, mesh sections with a rectangular or square mesh made of galvanized wire with a diameter of 3-5 mm are used for the production of gabions. When the gabion block is filled, it is closed at the top. Blocks are stacked on top of each other and fastened together with metal spirals and staples.
Gabions are widely used to produce decorative fences in landscape design, and fortifications. With the help of gabions, decorative benches, flower beds, three-dimensional compositions, and much more are made.
